Orthodontic treatment has long been considered the way of creating a beautiful, straight smile. While the esthetic outcomes are a nice benefit, orthodontic treatment is actually helping your teeth and gums stay healthy and strong.

Spaces and crowding can both cause damage to the teeth and gums if left untreated. Spaces tend to make cleaning teeth easier, but can cause food to compress exposed gum tissue causing irritation that can progress to periodontal disease. Crowding tends to be associated with increased risk of cavities as well as periodontal disease. Crowding makes cleaning teeth more difficult. As food particles and plaque buildup, cavities form on the teeth. This same buildup of plaque will change to tartar (calculus) with time which then begins to cause periodontal issues.

Whether you desire to improve your overall oral health or get a beautiful new smile let Dr. Bender and Dr. Lewis explain your options and help you achieve your goals!

Clear Aligners – Invisalign

Clear Aligners are a series of trays that go incrementally changing the position of teeth until they arrive at the desired location. This technology allows patients to straighten there teeth in a manner that is almost invisible. While clear aligners are an impressive technology and can achieve excellent results, there are some limitations to what they can do.

If you have a comfortable bite on your back teeth, but crowding or spaces around your front teeth, Invisalign can be an excellent option for you. They do a wonderful job adjusting the front teeth, but tend to struggle more with the movement of large molars.

If you’re interested in straightening your front teeth, or simply have had some crowding occur as an adult after previously having braces, let Dr. Bender or Dr. Lewis know at your next checkup. Clear aligner trays will give you something to smile about!

Traditional Braces

Traditional braces are still an excellent option for straightening teeth. There are certain cases where tooth movement can not be sufficiently achieved with clear aligner trays. Traditional braces have a long, proven track record of success. While we do not offer traditional braces in our office, there are times when they are the best option and we’ll help direct you to an excellent orthodontist to handle your needs.
